Huperzia urbanii is a quirky little clubmoss from the misty cloud forests of Central and South America. This isn't your typical leafy green—it's more like a prehistoric survivor with upright, branching stems covered in tiny, scale-like leaves that give it a soft, fuzzy vibe. Native to humid, shaded spots at higher elevations, it's a slow-growing epiphyte that thrives as a houseplant, adding a unique, fern-like texture to your collection without much fuss.
Caring for Huperzia urbanii is pretty straightforward if you mimic its wild home. Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy—think damp sponge, not swamp—using well-draining mix like peat or orchid bark to avoid root rot. It loves bright, indirect light (no direct sun scorchers!), so a north-facing window or under grow lights works wonders. Humidity is key, so mist it regularly or pop it in a pebble tray; aim for 60% or higher to keep those leaves perky. Water with room-temp H2O when the top inch dries out, and feed sparingly with diluted balanced fertilizer every couple of months during growth season
