Alocasia tandurusa 'Jacklyn'

One of the most architecturally distinctive alocasias in the collector trade, Alocasia tandurusa 'Jacklyn' takes the classic arrowhead silhouette of the genus and elaborates it dramatically — the large, broadly ovate leaves deeply sinuate and lobed along their margins in a way that draws comparisons to deer antlers, the Indonesian species name tandurusa deriving directly from the local words tanduk rusa meaning exactly that. The leaf surface is a rich, healthy deep green with bold, contrasting dark primary veins that appear to bleed and diffuse into the surrounding blade, creating a layered, almost iridescent depth when light passes through. The petioles are equally ornamental — creamy green streaked and striped in purple, visible from the side in a way that gives the plant a striking presence from multiple angles. It can reach 4-8 feet tall under ideal conditions, making it ultimately a substantial floor plant with genuine architectural presence.

Provide medium to bright indirect light — this supports the most vibrant deep green coloration and consistent growth, while low light causes sluggish development and pale foliage. Water when the top 1-2" of the medium has dried out, watering thoroughly and allowing full drainage; like all alocasias it is sensitive to root rot from waterlogged conditions. Provide a chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. High humidity of 60-80% is essential — the large leaf margins are prone to browning in dry air below 50%. Like many alocasias, it may enter a dormancy period in winter with reduced growth or leaf drop; maintain warmth and reduce watering accordingly. Maintain temperatures between 65-85°F away from cold drafts. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
