Anthurium Crystallinum × Carlablackiae
Anthurium crystallinum × Anthurium carlablackiae
A cross between two velvet species with complementary strengths. A. crystallinum contributes its broadly heart-shaped, deeply velvety leaves and brilliant silver-white crystalline venation. A. carlablackiae — the compact Panamanian understory species — brings its near-black mature pigmentation, ridged burgundy petioles, and pink emergent venation. The cross produces dark, velvety cordate leaves with prominent silver venation and a compact, manageable habit, deepening in pigmentation as the plant matures. Individual seedling expression varies.
-
Light: Medium to bright indirect light — the carlablackiae lineage is intolerant of prolonged high light; gentle consistent light supports the deepest dark pigmentation and best venation contrast. Avoid direct sun.
-
Soil: Open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage and aeration; never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm but not hot temperatures between 65-80°F; avoid prolonged heat above 82°F. High humidity of 70-80%+ is essential for the velvet surface quality and cleanest leaf emergence.
-
Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — allow only the top inch to approach dryness between waterings. Never waterlog; never allow to dry out fully.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer supplemented with calcium every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength. Reduce in winter.
