Anthurium (((crystallinum × regale) × forgetii) × carlablackiae)
Anthurium Green Glamour x Carlablackiae
A four-way hybrid of exceptional depth and pedigree, this cross represents the kind of intentional, layered breeding that the advanced aroid community has been building toward for years. The foundation is A. crystallinum × A. regale — itself already a striking combination of crystallinum's bold silver venation and regale's majestic scale and presence — to which A. forgetii has been added, contributing its distinctive rounded, earless leaf shape and compact, upright character. The final cross with A. carlablackiae — the rare Panamanian species with dark chevron to heart-shaped foliage, striking reddish petioles, dark brown to black emergent leaves with red undertones, and an exceptionally elegant inflorescence — introduces its darkening influence, deep pigmentation, and the refined structural quality that has made carlablackiae a cornerstone of serious collector breeding programs. The resulting seedlings from a cross this complex will express a compelling and variable range of traits across individuals — large, velvety, heart-shaped to rounded leaves with prominent silver venation, potential for dark emergent coloration, and a structural self-supporting growth habit drawn from multiple parent lines. Each plant a genuinely unique outcome of four extraordinary species.
This hybrid demands the attentive care its genetics require. Provide bright indirect light — adequate brightness preserves the silver venation contrast and supports healthy leaf development without scorching the velvety surface. Keep the medium evenly moist but allow the top 1" to dry between waterings; carlablackiae in the lineage introduces heightened sensitivity to root rot and inconsistent watering, making excellent drainage and a very open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and sphagnum essential. High humidity of 65-80% is critical — a dedicated humidifier or enclosed growing environment is strongly recommended. Keep temperatures between 65-82°F and avoid heat above 85°F, which can stress the carlablackiae genetics particularly. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
