Anthurium Silver
Anthurium sp. 'Silver'
A velvet-leaf anthurium circulating in the collector trade under the trade name 'Silver' for the silver-toned metallic iridescence diffused across its dark, deeply quilted leaf surface. It produces broadly heart-shaped leaves with a velvety to subtly bullate texture, nearly closed sinus, and pinkish-red petioles, with the silver sheen reading across the entire blade rather than confined to vein lines. New leaves emerge in warm tones before maturing to the dark, iridescent surface of the adult leaf. A frequent and desirable hybrid parent.
-
Light: Bright but soft indirect light maintains the silver iridescence and protects the velvet surface from bleaching. Avoid direct sun.
-
Soil: Open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage and aeration; never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; high humidity of 70-80% is essential for the velvet surface quality and cleanest leaf emergence.
-
Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — allow only the top inch to approach dryness between waterings. Never waterlog; never allow to dry out fully.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength. Reduce in winter.
