Anthurium Rabbit Ears
Anthurium crystallinum × Anthurium pinkleyi
A hybrid cross between A. crystallinum — known for its heart-shaped velvety leaves and brilliant white-silver venation — and A. pinkleyi, the larger-scale species with broadly heart-shaped, glossy leaves and prominent parallel venation. The cross produces heart-shaped leaves with prominent white veining against a deep green ground, the leaf shape varying and changing significantly as the plant matures. Individual seedling expression varies.
-
Light: Bright indirect light maintains the venation contrast and supports healthy growth; avoid direct sun which scorches the leaves.
-
Soil: Open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage; never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Intermediate to warm temperatures between 65-80°F; high humidity of 70-80% is essential, with medium air circulation to support the velvet surface and clean leaf emergence.
-
Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — allow only the top inch to approach dryness between waterings. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot; never waterlog.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength. Reduce in winter.
