Philodendron Billietiae (Dark Form)
A dark-selected clone of Philodendron billietiae — the hemiepiphytic climber native to Brazil, Guyana, and French Guiana — distinguished by a deeper, richer green leaf coloration than the standard form while retaining the species' signature bright orange to golden-yellow petioles and long, narrow, elongated paddle-shaped leaves with wavy margins. A vigorous climber that produces progressively larger leaves with vertical support.
-
Light: Bright indirect light supports the fastest growth and most vivid petiole color; tolerates moderate light but produces smaller leaves. Avoid direct harsh sun.
-
Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage and aeration essential. Never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-85°F; humidity of 60-70% supports the best leaf quality, though it adapts to average household humidity reasonably well.
-
Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
