A terrestrial Philodendron from Colombia, P. gloriosum is celebrated for its massive, heart-shaped leaves (up to 3 ft wide!) with velvety texture and striking white-pink veins. Unlike climbing species, it creeps along the ground with a rhizomatous growth habit, making it ideal for wide, shallow pots.
Care
Light: Bright indirect light (1–2 hrs morning sun tolerated)
Water: Let top 2–3" dry out (rhizomes rot if soggy)
Soil: Airy mix (potting soil + perlite + orchid bark)
Humidity: 70%+ ideal (below 50% slows growth)
Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C)
Growth: Slow to moderate
