Philodendron gloriosum × Philodendron maximum (variegated)

A variegated form of the cross between P. gloriosum — the Colombian terrestrial creeper known for its velvety, white-veined heart-shaped leaves — and P. maximum, the large-scale hemiepiphyte. The hybrid combines gloriosum's velvet texture and white venation with maximum's leaf scale, and the variegated form adds cream to white sectors and marbling across the deep green surface. Growth habit is terrestrial to semi-vining, with the plant variable between creeping and climbing depending on the individual. Variegation is unpredictable across successive leaves.

• Light: Bright indirect light is essential for maintaining the variegation and supporting growth across the lighter sectors; insufficient light causes reversion. Avoid direct sun which scorches the velvet surface and cream sectors.

• Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; provide a wide pot or moss pole depending on the plant's habit. Excellent drainage essential.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; humidity of 60-80% supports the best velvet texture and cleanest leaf emergence.

• Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog — variegated forms are more sensitive to root stress.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
