Philodendron 'Ivan Portilla' (Philodendron patriciae × Philodendron ruizii) × Philodendron spiritus-sancti

A multi-lineage hybrid built on narrow, elongated leaf form. 'Ivan Portilla' — itself a cross of P. patriciae and P. ruizii — contributes patriciae's long, pendulous, quilted leaves and ruizii's thick, leathery leaf substance. Crossed with P. spiritus-sancti, the critically endangered Brazilian endemic famous for its dramatically elongated, narrow, pendant sword-like leaves, the result concentrates the long, tapering, pendant leaf character of all three lineages — producing dramatic elongated foliage that develops its full length with maturity. A climber that benefits from a tall moss pole. Individual seedling expression varies.

• Light: Bright indirect light supports the fullest leaf size and fastest development; both the patriciae and spiritus-sancti lineages reward good light. Avoid direct harsh sun.

• Soil: Very open, chunky aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage; dense or compacted media is particularly detrimental to this lineage. Never waterlogged.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-82°F; high humidity of 70%+ supports the best growth, though the ruizii and spiritus-sancti influence lends some added tolerance.

• Watering: Water when the top inch of medium approaches dryness; keep consistently moist but never soggy. Never waterlog.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
