Philodendron 'Lavinia' (Paloraense cf. × Tortum)
Philodendron sp. cf. paloraense × Philodendron tortum
A hybrid combining Philodendron cf. paloraense — the rare Ecuadorian species with elongated, serrated leaves and a silvery-blue cast — with Philodendron tortum, the Amazonian species known for its radically dissected, skeletal, feather-like leaves. The cross pairs the deeply divided leaf architecture of tortum with the elongated, silvery character of the paloraense parent, producing finely cut, multi-segmented leaves. A climber that develops larger, more dramatically dissected leaves with vertical support. Individual seedling expression varies.
-
Light: Bright indirect light supports the most vigorous growth and most deeply dissected leaves; avoid direct harsh sun which scorches the foliage.
-
Soil: Very open, chunky aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; the fine dissected leaf structure is correlated with sensitivity to root rot — excellent drainage essential. Never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-82°F; humidity of 60-80% supports the cleanest leaf emergence and most vigorous growth.
-
Watering: Allow the top 2" of medium to approach dryness between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
