Philodendron Pink Princess
Philodendron erubescens 'Pink Princess'

One of the most recognizable and sought-after variegated philodendrons in the collector world, the Pink Princess earns its devoted following through a variegation unlike anything else in the genus — irregular, unpredictable splashes, sectors, and half-moon patches of bubblegum pink to deep rose overlaid across deep, glossy burgundy-green leaves, with hot pink petioles and stems that maintain their vivid color at every stage. The contrast between the near-black green of the leaf and the intensely warm pink variegation is genuinely striking, and because it is a chimeric mutation, no two leaves are ever identical — some emerging nearly all pink, others predominantly dark green, and the most desirable expressing bold, balanced half-moon sectors that collectors actively seek out. A cultivar of Philodendron erubescens bred and stabilized in Florida in the 1970s, it has become one of the most globally recognized collector aroids, with demand that has remained consistently high despite increased tissue culture availability.

This cultivar is a climbing vine that produces its most impressive, balanced variegation on a firm vertical support — a moss pole or trellis encourages the development of larger, more dramatically patterned mature leaves and tighter nodes. Bright indirect light is essential for maintaining the richest pink coloration; insufficient light causes new leaves to emerge predominantly dark green with minimal pink expression, while too much direct sun bleaches and scorches the pink sectors. Water when the top 1-2" of medium is dry, ensuring excellent drainage and never allowing roots to sit in standing water; provide a chunky aroid mix of coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark. Humidity of 60-70% supports healthy growth and clean leaf emergence. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-85°F away from cold drafts. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
