Philodendron Polypodioides × Florida Beauty
Philodendron sp. 'Polypodioides' × Philodendron 'Florida Beauty'
A cross between two deeply dissected, multi-lobed climbing philodendrons that share pedatum lineage. Philodendron sp. 'Polypodioides' — a finely dissected form within the pedatum complex — contributes intricately divided, fern-frond-like lobing, while Philodendron 'Florida Beauty', the squamiferum × pedatum hybrid, brings its multi-lobed leaf architecture, bristly petioles, and cream-to-yellow variegation. The cross integrates the two lobing systems into a finely dissected, multi-segmented leaf carrying the Florida Beauty variegation across the restructured form. A climber that develops larger, more deeply lobed leaves with vertical support. Variegation is unpredictable across successive leaves.
-
Light: Bright indirect light is essential for maintaining the variegation — the cream and yellow sectors require good light, and insufficient light causes reversion toward green. Avoid direct sun which scorches the lighter sectors.
-
Soil: Very open, chunky aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; the fine dissected leaf structure of the pedatum lineage is correlated with sensitivity to root rot — excellent drainage essential.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-82°F; humidity of 60-70% supports the cleanest leaf emergence and best color.
-
Watering: Allow the top 2" of medium to approach dryness between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; consistent feeding supports growth across the reduced-chlorophyll sectors. Reduce in winter.
