Philodendron erubescens 'Strawberry Shake'

Strawberry Shake Philodendron is a feast of color unlike almost anything else in the genus. New leaves emerge in vivid shades of red, orange, yellow, and cream before maturing to deep green — often with splashes, sectors, and speckles of multiple colors persisting on a single leaf. Petioles carry a rich lipstick-red hue that complements the soft pastels of the foliage beautifully. Each new unfurling is a surprise, as no two leaves are ever quite the same. A vigorous climber that responds enthusiastically to good care and a sturdy support structure, it develops into an impressive specimen over time and remains one of the crown jewels of the collector aroid world.

• Light: Bright indirect light essential — maintains vivid variegation and color intensity. Insufficient light pushes new growth toward green. No direct sun.
• Water: Water when top 1-2" of medium is dry. Excellent drainage essential. Never allow roots to sit in standing water.
• Humidity: 60%+ preferred. Humidifier strongly recommended — dry air browns variegated tissue and dulls color.
• Soil: Chunky aroid mix — coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark. Provide a moss pole for best growth and leaf size.
• Fertilizer: Balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength every 2-4 weeks during growing season. Reduce in winter.
• Temperature: 65-85°F. Keep above 55°F. Cold drafts cause rapid darkening and tissue damage.
• Pests: Watch for thrips, spider mites, and mealybugs. Inspect new growth at every watering — thrips damage on variegated leaves is permanent.
• Toxicity: Toxic to humans and pets if ingested. Contains calcium oxalate crystals.
• Propagation: Stem cuttings below a node with aerial root, rooted in water or sphagnum moss. Variegation expression will vary between cuttings.
