Anthurium Forgetii

A compact epiphytic species from the cloud forests of Colombia, distinguished within the velvet anthurium group by one defining anatomical feature — the fully closed sinus, a complete absence of the basal lobes that characterize most anthurium leaves, producing a smooth, uninterrupted oval to ovate leaf outline with no notch or gap at the base. The leaves are dark, semi-velvety, and carry subtle silver to white venation with a quiet iridescence in good light, along with pale margins and a distinctive speckled spathe at flowering. Compact in habit and a consistent parent in collector hybridization, passing its closed-sinus character reliably into offspring.

• Light: Bright indirect light maintains the iridescent dark surface and best venation contrast; avoid harsh direct sun which dulls the characteristic sheen.

• Soil: Open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage and aeration; never waterlogged.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; high humidity of 70-85% is essential for the velvet surface quality and cleanest leaf emergence.

• Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — allow only the top inch to approach dryness between waterings. Never waterlog; never allow to dry out fully.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength. Reduce in winter.
