Cattleya Lucia Fernandez is a hybrid orchid combining the bold floral traits of Cattleya Cruella with the classic form and fragrance of Cattleya percivaliana. It produces large, showy blooms with rich coloration and a striking lip, making it a prized specimen for orchid collectors.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright, indirect light with some direct morning or late afternoon sun. Insufficient light reduces flowering.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the potting medium is nearly dry. Allow roots to dry slightly between waterings.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Good air circulation is essential to prevent fungal issues.
- Temperature: Thrives in intermediate to warm conditions: 65–85°F during the day, with a slight nighttime drop.
- Soil/Medium: Best grown in orchid bark, charcoal, and perlite mixes, or mounted on slabs with ample airflow.
- Fertilizer: Feed weekly at quarter to half strength with a balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth. Reduce feeding in winter.
- Growth Habit: Sympodial orchid producing pseudobulbs with leathery leaves. Flowers emerge from the sheath at the top of mature pseudobulbs, often displaying bold coloration and fragrance.
-
Common Issues:
- Wrinkled pseudobulbs: under-watering or root damage.
- Leaf yellowing: excessive light or nutrient imbalance.
- Pests: scale, mealybugs, and spider mites; treat with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap.
- Toxicity: Generally considered safe, but not intended for ingestion.
Key Notes:
Cattleya Lucia Fernandez requires bright light, careful watering, and stable humidity to bloom reliably. With proper care, it rewards growers with large, fragrant flowers that showcase the best traits of both parent species, making it a standout hybrid in any orchid collection.
