Philodendron erubescens 'Orange Princess'

A climbing cultivar of the Philodendron erubescens lineage, the Orange Princess is celebrated for one of the most dynamic color sequences in the philodendron world. New leaves emerge in vivid, luminous orange — a genuinely rare hue in foliage plants — and transition through warm peach and copper tones before settling into a deep, glossy green at full maturity, often retaining subtle orange undertones near the veins that give even mature leaves a warm glow. On an established, actively growing plant, multiple leaves at different stages of the transition coexist simultaneously, creating a layered display of orange, copper, and green that photographs beautifully and draws instant attention in a collection. Unlike its closely related counterpart the Prince of Orange — which is self-heading and compact — the Orange Princess has a vining, climbing growth habit and produces larger, heart-shaped leaves with a notably glossy finish.

This cultivar produces increasingly large, deeply colored leaves as it climbs a support structure — a moss pole or trellis encourages tighter nodes and more dramatic mature leaf expression. Bright indirect light is essential for maintaining the vivid orange coloration in new growth; insufficient light causes new leaves to emerge in muted, washed-out tones with significantly less color intensity. Water when the top 1-2" of medium is dry, ensuring full drainage and never allowing roots to sit in standing water. Provide a chunky, well-draining aroid mix of coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark. Humidity of 60-70% supports lush, healthy leaf emergence and the richest color expression. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-85°F away from cold drafts. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
