Anthurium Friedrichsthalii
A pendant strap-leaf anthurium native to the humid forests of Central America and northern South America, from Guatemala through Panama into Colombia. It produces narrow, strap-like leaves that are darker, glossier, and more leathery than many in its group, with a prominently raised midrib and long petioles that give the plant a gracefully arching, cascading habit. Notably vigorous and more tolerant of average household humidity than many pendant anthuriums. An elevated or hanging position is ideal to allow the leaves to cascade freely.
-
Light: Medium to bright indirect light; relatively adaptable and tolerant of somewhat lower light than many collector anthuriums. Avoid direct harsh sun.
-
Soil: Open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage; never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; humidity of 60-70% is ideal, though it tolerates average household humidity better than most pendant anthuriums.
-
Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — allow only the top inch to approach dryness between waterings. Never waterlog; never allow to dry out fully.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength. Reduce in winter.
