Philodendron spiritus sancti is one of the rarest and most coveted philodendrons in the world. Native to Espírito Santo, Brazil, it was first described by botanist Roberto Burle Marx and later formally classified by Thomas Croat. This species is renowned for its extraordinarily long, narrow, pendant leaves that can reach over 2–3 feet in length, with elegant rippling margins and pronounced venation. Due to its rarity in the wild and limited cultivation, it is considered a “holy grail” plant among collectors.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright, indirect light to encourage large leaf development. Avoid direct sun which can scorch foliage.
  • Water: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Maintain even moisture without waterlogging.
  • Humidity: Requires very high humidity (70–90%) to thrive. Benefits from humidifiers, greenhouse setups, or terrariums.
  • Temperature: Thrives between 65–85°F. Protect from drafts and cold below 60°F.
  • Soil: Loose, well-draining aroid mix with potting soil, perlite/pumice, orchid bark, and sphagnum moss.
  • Fertilizer: Feed monthly during active growth with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce in winter.
  • Growth Habit: Climbing philodendron with extremely long, pendant leaves. Requires strong support and ample vertical space.
  • Common Issues:
    • Yellow leaves: overwatering or nutrient imbalance.
    • Brown edges: low humidity or underwatering.
    • Pests: spider mites, thrips, and mealybugs; treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
  • Toxicity: Not safe for pets or humans if ingested.

Key Notes:
Philodendron spiritus sancti thrives under carefully controlled tropical conditions. With bright indirect light, consistent moisture, and high humidity, it develops into a spectacular climbing specimen. Its rarity and extraordinary foliage make it one of the most prized philodendrons in existence, often regarded as a centerpiece species in advanced collections.

Options such as "4 inch 2 plants" means you'll receive a pot with 2 plants growing in it.
