Alocasia 'Simpo' (albo variegated)

A variegated selection of Alocasia 'Simpo', known for its thick, heavily textured, broad shield-to-arrowhead-shaped leaves with bold raised vein structure. The albo form overlays the deep green base with irregular white to cream sectoral variegation, giving each leaf a unique marbled pattern — some boldly splashed, others subtly streaked or speckled. Compact and upright in habit with a sculptural presence. Slower-growing than the standard form due to reduced chlorophyll, and subject to the natural leaf-cycling and dormancy typical of the genus.

• Light: Bright indirect light is essential for maintaining the crisp white variegation and healthy growth; direct sun scorches the pale sectors, while insufficient light causes reversion and leaf drop.

• Soil: Chunky, well-draining, airy aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage is essential — as a rhizomatous alocasia it is highly susceptible to root rot. Never waterlogged.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm, stable temperatures between 65-80°F; cool below 60°F triggers dormancy. High humidity of 60-80% is essential — the white sectors show browning before green tissue does.

• Watering: Keep evenly and lightly moist, allowing the top 1-2" to dry slightly between waterings; never soggy. Overwatering is the primary cultivation failure — the albo form is especially sensitive.

• Fertilizer: Feed gently with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength every 4-6 weeks during active growth; reduce or stop during dormancy.
