Native to the limestone karst forests of Chiapas, Mexico — a surprisingly dry and rocky habitat for an aroid — it produces large, thick, heart-shaped leaves with a deep matte-velvet surface in rich forest green, dramatically contrasted by bold, bright white venation that maps across every leaf in an intricate, branching network. The contrast is crisp, graphic, and deeply satisfying. Leaves are notably leathery and substantial in texture, a reflection of its adaptation to the drier, rockier conditions of its native habitat that also makes it more forgiving in cultivation than many of its velvet aroid relatives. One of the more forgiving velvet anthuriums, this species adapts well to typical indoor conditions when its core needs are met. Water when the top half of the medium has dried out; its limestone-adapted roots are notably sensitive to overwatering and root rot, making excellent drainage and a chunky, open mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir essential. Humidity of 50-70% is preferred — more forgiving than cloud forest species, though higher humidity supports faster growth and larger leaves.
