Anthurium Insigne 'San Antonio' × Besseae

A cross between two very different but complementary species — Anthurium insigne, the large-bodied Colombian and Ecuadorian species native to the wet forests of the Chocó and Nariño regions at elevations up to 1,400 meters, known for its impressively scaled, bullate, deeply puckered and quilted leaves with strongly impressed venation that gives each blade a three-dimensional sculptural quality; and Anthurium besseae aff., the compact Peruvian species celebrated above nearly all others in the hybrid anthurium world for the brilliance of its yellow-green venation, which reads as almost fluorescent against the deep velvety green of the leaf surface. The 'San Antonio' locale selection of insigne refers to a specific geographic form selected for its particularly prominent bullate texture, deep vein impressions, and exceptional leaf quality. The cross brings besseae's vivid venation energy into contact with insigne's large-scale, architecturally textured leaf form, producing offspring that combine substantial leaf presence and three-dimensional surface relief with the striking venation contrast that the besseae lineage passes so consistently. As with all seedling-variable anthurium hybrids, individual expression varies — some offspring lean toward insigne's scale and texture, others toward besseae's venation intensity, with the most prized individuals expressing both simultaneously.

Provide bright indirect light to support the fullest venation expression and best leaf development — the besseae lineage in particular benefits from good light to maintain its vivid yellow-green vein color. Keep the medium consistently but lightly moist in a chunky, open epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; never allow waterlogging or saturated conditions. High humidity of 70-80% is essential for maintaining the velvet surface quality and clean leaf emergence from both parent lineages. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-80°F.
