Anthurium 'Silver' × (Doc Block F2 × NSE Red Crystal)
Anthurium complex hybrid

A three-lineage collector hybrid of serious depth, this cross brings together three of the most influential velvet anthurium cultivar lines in the hobby. The Silver parent — a crystallinum-type selection prized for vivid silver-white venation and compact velvety form — contributes structural refinement and high venation contrast as the seed parent. The pollen side combines Doc Block F2, from Dr. Jeff Block's program known for deeply pigmented red to near-black foliage, structured architectural growth, and hybrid vigor, with NSE Red Crystal — the legendary Tim Anderson 'Wonderboy'-descended line from NSE Tropicals, celebrated for its dramatic crimson to deep red emergent leaves, rich velvet texture, and exceptional silver venation. Seedlings from a cross this layered will each express a unique constellation of traits from all three lineages — expect striking emergent coloration ranging from copper-red to deep crimson, maturing to dark emerald or near-black with high-contrast silver to rose venation, in a compact to mid-sized upright form.

Provide bright indirect light to preserve the deepest foliage pigmentation and sharpest venation contrast — the red and dark tones from both the Doc Block and Red Crystal lineages intensify noticeably under good light and high humidity. Keep the medium evenly moist but never waterlogged, watering when the top inch begins to dry, with a very open chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and sphagnum ensuring excellent drainage and root aeration. High humidity of 65-80% is essential and directly influences the quality of color in emerging leaves. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-82°F away from cold drafts. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
