A vivid and luminous variegated expression of one of the most botanically distinctive philodendrons in existence, the Aurea form brings warm, bright yellow to lemon-gold marbling and speckling to the already extraordinary tri-lobed leaf silhouette that defines the species — the unmistakable elongated blade that pinches dramatically at the center before widening into broad, open lobes at the tips, a shape so unusual that the discoverer, Dutch botanist Joep Moonen, initially believed the first specimen had suffered insect damage when he encountered it in the rainforests of French Guiana in 1991. Where the standard variegated form expresses cooler cream and white sectors and the Mint form reads in soft green tones, the Aurea's warm golden-yellow marbling creates a striking, high-contrast display against the deep green foliage — every leaf uniquely patterned, some developing bold half-moon sectors, others fine speckling across the full blade. Both the species and its variegated forms are genuinely rare in cultivation, making the Aurea among the most coveted expression of an already extraordinary plant.

A slow-growing climber that rewards patience with increasingly large and dramatically shaped mature leaves on a firm moss pole or trellis — vertical support is essential for achieving full mature leaf expression and the characteristic tri-lobed form. Bright indirect light maintains the most vivid gold coloration in the aurea sectors; insufficient light mutes the yellow tones and further slows growth. Water when the top 1-2" of medium is dry with a chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. The yellow variegated sectors contain less chlorophyll and are more vulnerable to burning in direct sun and browning in dry air — humidity of 65-80% is strongly recommended. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-85°F and protect from cold at all times. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
