Philodendron Serpens × Verrucosum
Philodendron serpens × Philodendron verrucosum
A velvet-leaf hybrid combining the deep green velvety foliage and pale contrast veining of P. verrucosum with the fuzzy, hairy petioles and climbing constitution of P. serpens — both parents notable for their bristled stems. New leaves emerge with a soft bronzed tone before maturing to rich green velvet with pronounced contrasting venation, often with a reddish flush on the undersides. A climbing hybrid widely reported to be easier to grow than either parent, developing fuller leaves with vertical support.
-
Light: Bright indirect light for the deepest velvet coloration and best vein contrast; avoid direct sun which bleaches the velvet surface.
-
Soil: Airy, moisture-retentive aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage essential. Never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; high humidity of 60-80% supports the best velvet texture and clean leaf emergence.
-
Watering: Allow the top inch of medium to dry between waterings; keep consistently moist but never soggy. Never waterlog.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
