Philodendron Esmeraldense Narrow

A narrow-leaved form of Philodendron esmeraldense — the hemiepiphytic climber described by Croat and endemic to the humid lowland and lower montane rainforests of Ecuador's Esmeraldas Province. This form produces particularly elongated, slender leaves with a semi-glossy deep emerald surface, a prominently raised midrib, and heavily impressed lateral veins that give the foliage a strongly sculptural quality. New growth carries a bronze to burgundy flush, and the undersides retain a pale purple tinge. A vigorous appressed climber that produces markedly larger leaves as it ascends.

• Light: Bright indirect light; tolerates moderate light but produces the fastest growth and richest emerald coloration in good filtered conditions. Avoid direct sun.

• Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir at a slightly acidic pH of 6.0-6.9; excellent drainage essential. Never waterlogged.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 60-85°F; humidity of 60-70%+ supports the best growth and cleanest leaf emergence.

• Watering: Allow the top 2" of medium to approach dryness between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
