Philodendron sp. 'Felix'

An undescribed or not yet fully classified species circulating in the collector trade under the provisional name 'Felix' — as with many collector philodendrons that arrive ahead of formal botanical description, the name likely honors either the person responsible for its discovery or collection, and serves as a consistent identifier while taxonomic work catches up. A hemiepiphytic climber whose aerial roots cling tightly to moss poles and natural supports, producing progressively larger, more architecturally mature leaves as it ascends — the leaf quality difference between a supported and unsupported plant is significant and immediate. The leaves are broadly ovate to cordate, deep glossy green, with a clean, handsome presence that rewards the climbing habit with increasing scale and refinement at each successive node. Its tropical provenance — consistent with the broader Ecuadorian and Colombian cloud forest origins of many collector philodendrons in trade — places it comfortably in the care regime that applies across the climbing collector philodendron category.

  • Light: Bright indirect light for the fastest growth and most vigorous aerial root development. Tolerates moderate light but produces noticeably smaller leaves in dimmer conditions.

  • Soil: Chunky, open aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and sphagnum; excellent drainage and root aeration are essential. Never allow roots to sit in compacted or waterlogged medium.

  • Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; humidity of 70%+ supports the healthiest growth and cleanest leaf emergence. Growth slows noticeably below 50%.

  • Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog.

  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
