Anthurium Silver Blush × Papillilaminum
Anthurium 'Silver Blush' × Anthurium papillilaminum
A cross pairing the compact, crystallinum-derived 'Silver Blush' — selected for its broadly diffused silver venation and rounded velvety heart-shaped leaves — with Anthurium papillilaminum, the Panamanian understory species known for its thick, muscular, papillose-velvety leaf texture, ribbed and winged petioles, and deep mahogany emergent coloration. The Silver Blush parent contributes the silver venation and crystallinum-lineage compact constitution; the papillilaminum parent contributes leaf substance, velvet depth, and the rich mahogany new growth coloration it passes consistently into its offspring. The cross produces a hybrid where crystallinum-lineage silver venation reads across a more substantial, thicker-bodied velvet leaf than Silver Blush alone produces — each parent improving on what the other lacks.
-
Light: Bright but soft indirect light — the papillilaminum lineage prefers gentler light levels than many velvet anthuriums; silver venation intensity is most vivid under consistent good indirect rather than high-intensity light.
-
Soil: Very open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage and aeration; never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; high humidity of 70-80%+ is essential for both the velvet surface quality and the silver venation brilliance.
-
Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — allow only the top inch to approach dryness between waterings. Never waterlog; never allow to dry out fully.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer supplemented with calcium every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength. Reduce in winter.
