Variegated Ficus Lyrata

A rare cultivar of the Fiddle Leaf Fig — native to the tropical rainforests of West and Central Africa — whose large, leathery, lyre-shaped leaves carry creamy white to pale green variegation against the deep glossy green of the standard species. An upright, tree-forming houseplant capable of reaching 6-10 feet indoors with proper care and consistent conditions. Notoriously sensitive to environmental changes — moving the plant or exposing it to drafts frequently triggers leaf drop regardless of variegation. Note: leaf margin browning is characteristic of the variegated form and is not necessarily a sign of poor health.

• Light: Bright indirect light is essential for both plant health and maintaining variegation; an east or west-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct harsh sun which scorches the pale sectors, and avoid low light which causes leaf drop.

• Soil: Well-draining potting mix with added perlite; never waterlogged. Ensure the pot has adequate drainage holes.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm, stable temperatures between 60-80°F; keep away from air conditioning and heating vents — drafts are the primary cause of leaf drop. Moderate to high humidity preferred.

• Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of soil to dry completely between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Overwatering and inconsistent watering are the most common causes of decline.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during active growth; reduce or stop in winter. Avoid over-fertilizing which causes salt buildup and root burn.
