Philodendron Plowmanii Citrus
A bright-toned form of Philodendron plowmanii — the Ecuadorian terrestrial creeper — distinguished by its vivid lime to citrus-green foliage, a much brighter coloration than the deep green of the standard plowmanii. It retains the species' large, broadly heart-shaped leaves with wavy, undulating margins and the creeping rhizome habit that spreads horizontally rather than climbing. Wide, shallow containers and ample horizontal space encourage the largest leaves.
-
Light: Bright indirect light maintains the vibrant citrus coloration; direct sun fades and scorches the leaves. An east or north-facing window works well.
-
Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir in a wide, shallow container; the rhizome should sit at or just above the soil surface.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-79°F; high humidity of 60-80% supports the best growth. Protect from cold drafts and temperature fluctuations.
-
Watering: Allow the top 2-3" of medium to dry between waterings; keep consistent moisture without waterlogging. Sensitive to overwatering — never soggy.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; regular feeding during the growing season intensifies the citrus coloration. Reduce in winter.
