Pachira aquatica (aurea variegated)

A variegated form of the Money Tree — a tropical wetland tree native to Central and South America, valued as an easy-care houseplant and, in feng shui tradition, a symbol of luck and prosperity. It features glossy, palmate leaves of five to nine lance-shaped leaflets fanning out like an open hand, here marked with golden-yellow to cream variegation streaked and mottled across the green. Often sold with several trunks braided together for a decorative tree form. More forgiving than most variegated plants, retaining much of the standard money tree's famous ease of care.

• Light: Bright indirect light is essential for maintaining the golden variegation; low light dulls the color and reduces vigor. Avoid direct sun which scorches the variegated leaflets.

• Soil: Well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter with added perlite; slightly acidic to neutral pH. Never waterlogged.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F, tolerating brief dips to 50°F; moderate humidity of 40-50%+ supports the best growth and prevents dry leaf tips.

• Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of soil to dry between waterings — the stout trunk stores water, making this more susceptible to overwatering than underwatering. Never allow to sit in standing water.

• Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer diluted to half strength; reduce or stop in fall and winter.
