Philodendron Billietiae Variegated

A variegated form of Philodendron billietiae — the hemiepiphytic climber native to Brazil, Guyana, and French Guiana, known for its long, narrow, elongated paddle-shaped leaves with wavy margins and vivid bright orange to golden-yellow petioles. The variegated form adds bold cream, yellow, and lime-green sectors and marbling across the deep green leaves, each uniquely patterned, with the vivid orange petioles providing striking contrast. A vigorous climber that produces progressively larger leaves with vertical support. Variegation is unpredictable across successive leaves and slower-growing than the standard form.

• Light: Bright indirect light is critical for the variegated form — brighter than for standard billietiae, as the reduced chlorophyll requires more light energy; insufficient light causes reversion toward green. Avoid direct harsh sun which scorches the cream sectors.

• Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage essential. Never waterlogged.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-82°F; humidity of 60-70% supports the best leaf quality and color expression.

• Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog — the variegated form is notably susceptible to root rot.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; consistent feeding supports growth across the reduced-chlorophyll sectors. Reduce in winter.
