Philodendron Glorious
Philodendron gloriosum × Philodendron melanochrysum
A hybrid combining two velvet-leaf parents — P. gloriosum, the terrestrial creeper with large, heart-shaped, velvety leaves and bold white venation; and P. melanochrysum, the climbing Black Gold Philodendron with elongated, deeply velvety dark leaves and golden-green iridescent venation. The result is large, velvety, heart-shaped to elongated leaves with prominent contrasting venation, combining the scale and dark velvet of melanochrysum with the broad form and white veining of gloriosum. A climber that develops larger leaves with vertical support.
-
Light: Bright indirect light for the deepest velvet coloration and best vein contrast; avoid direct sun which bleaches the velvet surface.
-
Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage and aeration essential. Never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; high humidity of 60-80% supports the best velvet texture and clean leaf emergence — higher humidity promotes larger, faster growth.
-
Watering: Allow the top half of the medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
