Anthurium Maculosum

A species endemic to Ecuador, native to wet coastal and low Andean forests on the western slopes of the Andes, growing as a terrestrial or epiphyte. It produces elongated, lance-shaped, thickly leathery leaves with a smooth glossy texture, clear venation, and distinctive dark purple punctate (spotted) petioles — the leaves dangling in an almost pendant fashion from long, patterned petioles at maturity. Listed as Near Threatened in the wild due to habitat loss. Reported by growers to be a relatively hardy and adaptable species.

  • Light: Bright indirect light maintains the vibrant green coloration and supports healthy leaf development; avoid direct sun which scorches the foliage.

  • Soil: Airy, well-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; can be grown epiphytically or in a pot with excellent drainage. Never waterlogged.

  • Temperature/Humidity: Warm, stable temperatures between 65-80°F; humidity of 60-80% supports the best leaf health, though reported to tolerate down to around 55%.

  • Watering: Keep consistently moist but well-draining — allow the top layer to approach dryness between waterings. Never waterlog.

  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during active growth; reduce in winter.
