Philodendron rubrijuvenile × Philodendron pastazanum

A hybrid combining P. rubrijuvenile ('El Choco Red') — the velvety-leaved Chocó species known for its crimson emergent leaves and dark suede-surfaced mature foliage — with P. pastazanum, the broad-leaved Ecuadorian terrestrial creeper with strongly impressed venation. The cross produces broadly heart-shaped leaves of good scale, and is grown for the variegation that arises from the hybridization: yellow, cream, and light green splashed and streaked across a deep green ground. Variegation expression varies between individual seedlings and develops with maturity. Habit is terrestrial to scrambling rather than strictly climbing.

• Light: Bright indirect light is essential for the richest variegation expression and most vivid cream and yellow sectors; insufficient light causes new growth to emerge more uniformly green. Avoid direct sun.

• Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; provide a wide pot, or a moss pole if the individual plant trends toward climbing. Excellent drainage essential.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; humidity of 60-80% supports the cleanest leaf emergence and healthiest growth.

• Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
