Anthurium Luis' Mustache
Anthurium papillilaminum × Anthurium pinkleyi
A named hybrid combining A. papillilaminum — the Panamanian understory species known for its thick, muscular, papillose-velvety leaf texture, ribbed and winged petioles, and deep mahogany emergent coloration — with A. pinkleyi, the larger-scale species with broadly heart-shaped, glossy-leathery leaves and prominent parallel venation. The cross pairs papillilaminum's velvet substance and dark new growth with pinkleyi's leaf scale and vein structure, producing substantial, dark leaves with warm-toned emergence. Individual seedling expression varies.
- Light: Bright but soft indirect light — the papillilaminum lineage prefers gentler light levels; avoid direct sun which damages the velvet surface.
- Soil: Very open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage and aeration; never waterlogged.
- Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; high humidity of 70-80%+ is essential for the velvet surface quality and cleanest leaf emergence.
- Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — allow only the top inch to approach dryness between waterings. Never waterlog; never allow to dry out fully.
- Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer supplemented with calcium every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength. Reduce in winter.
