Like others in the genus, it grows from a lignotuber with coriaceous leaves, producing waxy, tubular hanging flowers adapted for hummingbird pollination. Endangered in the wild, making cultivation efforts meaningful. Best displayed where its pendant flowers can be appreciated; never remove spent peduncles.

• Light: Bright filtered indirect light, equivalent to dappled forest canopy; avoid direct sun which scorches the foliage.

• Soil: Open, acidic epiphytic mix of orchid bark and perlite, or mounted on cork or tree fern with sphagnum; excellent drainage essential. Use rainwater or reverse osmosis water to avoid mineral buildup.

• Temperature/Humidity: Intermediate to warm — daytime 68-82°F with a beneficial nighttime drop to encourage blooming; high humidity of 60-80% is essential, with good airflow at all times.

• Watering: Keep consistently moist but never soggy; water thoroughly when the top layer feels slightly dry, allowing excess to drain completely. Never let roots dry out fully.

• Fertilizer: Feed lightly with a low-pH ericaceous formula during active growth; sensitive to fertilizer salt buildup. Reduce in winter.

Compared to the cooler-adapted gualaquizensis group, C. zamorana is described as an intermediate to warm grower — a function of its somewhat lower-elevation habitat — with preferred daytime temperatures of 68-82°F and slightly cooler nights of 59-68°F, making it a more tractable species for growers who cannot maintain the very cool nighttime conditions required by higher-elevation Ceratostema. Provide bright indirect light replicating dappled forest canopy with excellent airflow at all times to prevent fungal issues in the high humidity the species requires. High humidity of 60-80%+ is essential. Keep the medium consistently moist but never waterlogged in a very open epiphytic substrate — cork bark mounting with sphagnum or a coarse bark and perlite mix with excellent drainage. Use rainwater or reverse osmosis water to prevent mineral accumulation on the delicate root system. Not known to be toxic to humans or pets.
