Huperzia Nummulariifolius 'Swan Tail'
(syn. Phlegmariurus nummulariifolius)

An epiphytic lycophyte — not a true fern but a member of one of the most ancient vascular plant lineages — native to the tropical rainforests of Asia and Oceania, where it grows on tree branches in the humid forest canopy. The 'Swan Tail' form is grown for its gracefully arching, densely scaled trailing stems that cascade from a hanging position, with the coin-scaled or sequin-textured leaf arrangement characteristic of the species. It grows upside-down from a basket or mount and grows slowly, reproducing via spores.

• Light: Bright indirect light to semi-shade; avoid direct sun which scorches the foliage. Provide good air circulation.

• Soil: Best mounted or grown in a hanging basket with a very open, soilless mix of orchid bark and sphagnum moss; excellent drainage and airflow essential. Never dense potting soil.

• Temperature/Humidity: Intermediate to warm temperatures between 60-80°F; high humidity is critical — keep moist, humid conditions consistent with good air movement.

• Watering: Keep consistently moist at all times — do not allow to dry out completely, but never allow it to sit soggy. Use rainwater or distilled water; sensitive to mineral buildup.

• Fertilizer: Feed monthly with a balanced or higher-nitrogen fertilizer diluted to quarter strength; light, consistent feeding suits its slow growth.
