Philodendron Gloriosum 'Zebra'

A select form of the beloved Philodendron gloriosum distinguished by its exceptionally bold and high-contrast venation — the bold primary and secondary veins appearing in a striking, near-pure white against the deep matte-velvety dark green leaf surface, creating a graphic, almost architectural patterning that the Zebra designation perfectly captures. Where the standard gloriosum's venation is luminous but varies in intensity across individuals, the 'Zebra' form consistently delivers an exaggerated, clearly defined vein network that extends across both primary and secondary veins throughout the full leaf blade, giving even young leaves a dramatic presence that intensifies further as the plant matures and leaves grow larger. The leaf margins carry a subtle reddish edge, and the petioles transition from green at the base to reddish near the veins with white longitudinal striations — fine detail that adds visual depth up close. A rarer find than the standard species and a genuine step up for any gloriosum collector.

Like all P. gloriosum, this is a terrestrial, ground-creeping rhizomatous species rather than a climber — it spreads horizontally along the soil surface and is happiest in a wide, shallow pot that accommodates its sprawling habit rather than a tall container or climbing support. Bright indirect light supports the largest possible leaf development and the most vivid vein contrast; insufficient light produces smaller, less dramatically veined leaves and a notably slower growth rate on an already deliberate plant. Water when the top 1-2" of medium is dry, keeping the substrate evenly but lightly moist and never waterlogged — the rhizome is sensitive to rot. Provide a chunky, airy aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. Humidity of 60-80% supports the velvety leaf texture and healthy unfurling.
