Philodendron Pink Glory
Philodendron gloriosum × Philodendron lynamii

A hybrid that earns its name directly from its most immediately striking characteristic — the emergent leaves unfurl in a vivid, saturated pink that graduates across the petioles and new leaf surfaces before slowly fading to deep green as the leaf matures, a color so intense it registers as almost unnatural, courtesy of the lynamii parent. Philodendron lynamii is itself one of the most extraordinary species in the genus for this reason — a rare Peruvian endemic from Tarapoto known only from a very limited wild range, whose bubblegum-pink new growth represents one of the most dramatic emergent colorations in cultivated aroids. Crossed against Philodendron gloriosum — the celebrated Colombian terrestrial with its large, velvety, deep green heart-shaped leaves and bold contrasting white venation — the Pink Glory combines these parent traits into a hybrid where the gloriosum's deep green mature coloration, prominent venation, and velvety leaf texture are offset by the vivid pink petioles and blush-pink leaf emergence inherited from lynamii. Both parents are terrestrial creepers, making this an inherently ground-level plant that grows horizontally via rhizome rather than climbing — the leaf scale and quality improve significantly when given room to spread. The degree of pink intensity varies between individual seedlings and is reported to be enhanced by good light levels.

As a terrestrial creeper from two terrestrial parents, this hybrid performs best in a wide, shallow pot or long rectangular container that accommodates the horizontal rhizome spread, with the rhizome kept at or just above the soil surface rather than buried. Bright indirect light is critical — good light is the primary factor in maintaining the most vivid pink emergent coloration and supporting the largest leaf development; the petiole and emergent pink fades noticeably more quickly under insufficient light. Allow the top 2-3" of the medium to dry out between waterings — this cross is notably sensitive to overwatering and root rot. Use a chunky, very well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. Humidity of 60-70%+ supports the best leaf quality though the plant is reported to be reasonably tolerant even at lower humidity. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-80°F. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
