Philodendron patriciae × Philodendron ruizii

A hybrid combining Philodendron patriciae — the Chocó Colombian rarity known for its long, pendulous, subtly quilted leaves — with Philodendron ruizii, the semi-succulent Andean species with thick, elongated, strap-like leathery leaves. The cross pairs patriciae's elongated pendant leaf form and quilted texture with the substantial, leathery leaf constitution of ruizii, producing long, dramatic foliage that develops its full character and length with maturity. A climber that benefits from vertical support. Individual seedling expression varies.

• Light: Bright indirect light supports the fullest leaf size and best development; avoid direct harsh sun which scorches the foliage.

• Soil: Very open, chunky aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage and aeration; dense or compacted media is detrimental to the patriciae lineage. Never waterlogged.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-82°F; high humidity of 70%+ supports the best growth — patriciae's higher humidity preference carries into the cross, though the ruizii parent lends some added tolerance.

• Watering: Water when the top 1-2" of medium approaches dryness; keep consistently moist but never soggy. The semi-succulent ruizii influence lends some drought tolerance — never waterlog.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
