Monstera Esqueleto
Monstera epipremnoides

A climbing hemiepiphyte native to the cloud forests of Costa Rica, grown for its dramatically fenestrated foliage — mature leaves develop enormous oblong holes that occupy much of the leaf surface, giving a skeletal, lace-like appearance from which the name "esqueleto" (skeleton) derives. The thin, elongated leaves have a glossy deep green surface and can reach substantial size on a climbing plant. A vigorous climber that develops its most dramatic fenestration as it ascends a support and matures.

  • Light: Bright indirect light supports the most vigorous growth and most dramatic fenestration; avoid direct harsh sun which scorches the leaves.

  • Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage and aeration essential. Never waterlogged.

  • Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-85°F; high humidity of 60-80% supports the best growth and cleanest leaf emergence.

  • Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog.

  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during active growth; provide a moss pole to encourage larger, more fenestrated leaves. Reduce in winter.
