Anthurium Perangustum cf

The "cf" prefix — from the Latin confer, meaning "compare" — signals that this plant is being sold with the honest caveat that it resembles Anthurium perangustum but has not been definitively confirmed as that species, a level of transparency that is actually relatively rare and commendable in the collector aroid trade where many plants circulate under names applied with more confidence than the botanical record justifies. Anthurium perangustum itself is a poorly documented species in cultivation — the name (per- + angustum, meaning "very narrow") points to its defining character as a narrow-leaved species, almost certainly belonging to the strap-leaf or pendant anthurium group that includes A. vittarifolium, A. pallidiflorum, and A. wendlingeri, all of which share the epiphytic pendant leaf habit that makes this group so distinctive and so suited to hanging display. What circulates in trade as cf. perangustum is a pendant epiphyte with characteristically narrow, strap-like to lanceolate pendant leaves carried in the cascading habit typical of the section, almost certainly from the tropical forests of northern South America where this group reaches its greatest diversity. As a cf. plant it may ultimately be confirmed as perangustum, described as a new species closely related to it, or assigned to an existing name — the botanical uncertainty is part of the plant's story and not a reason to avoid it.

An elevated position — hanging basket, high shelf, or mounted display — is essential to allow the pendant leaves to hang freely to their full length without folding or coiling. Provide bright to moderate indirect light; the pendant strap-leaf group as a whole tolerates a wide light range but produces the fastest growth and largest leaves in good indirect light. Keep the medium consistently but lightly moist in an open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage — as epiphytes these plants are intolerant of waterlogged roots. High humidity of 70-80% supports the cleanest leaf emergence and healthiest growth. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-80°F away from cold drafts. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
