Anthurium Crystallinum

One of the foundational velvet anthuriums, native to the humid montane forests of Panama, Colombia, and Peru, where it grows as a terrestrial to hemiepiphytic understory plant. Prized for its broadly heart-shaped, deeply velvety dark green leaves with a network of brilliant white to silver venation that reads as almost crystalline against the matte surface. New leaves emerge in a vivid pink to reddish-bronze flush before hardening to deep green. One of the most significant parent species in collector anthurium hybridization, passing its crystalline venation reliably into its offspring.

• Light: Bright but soft indirect light — the velvet surface bleaches and scorches under harsh sun, but insufficient light reduces leaf size and dulls the silver venation.

• Soil: Very open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; never waterlogged — root rot is the primary cultivation failure.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F with a gentle day-to-night differential; high humidity of 70-80% is essential for the velvet texture and full crystalline venation.

• Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — allow only the top inch to approach dryness between waterings. Never waterlog; never allow to dry out fully.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth; dilute to half strength. Reduce in winter.
