Anthurium Princess of Hearts
(Anthurium warocqueanum × Anthurium 'Esmeralda')

A cross within the Queen Anthurium lineage, pairing A. warocqueanum — the Colombian cloud forest species known for its long, pendant, deeply velvety leaves and prominent white venation — with the 'Esmeralda' selection, a jewel-toned green warocqueanum form with thick, leathery leaves and subtle venation. The cross concentrates the elongated pendant velvet leaf character of the warocqueanum lineage, producing dramatic, richly colored leaves with contrasting venation that develop their full length and character with maturity. An elevated position is ideal to allow the pendant leaves to hang to their full length.

• Light: Bright but genuinely soft indirect light — the velvet surface is sensitive to bleaching under harsh exposure; the deepest coloration develops under consistent gentle indirect light.

• Soil: Very open, chunky epiphytic mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with excellent drainage and aeration; waterlogging is the primary cultivation failure.

• Temperature/Humidity: Cool to warm temperatures between 60-78°F with meaningful day-to-night differential; high humidity of 70-80%+ is non-negotiable — edge browning is the first symptom of insufficient humidity.

• Watering: Keep consistently but lightly moist — never waterlogged, never fully dry. Consistency matters more than any specific schedule; fluctuations stress this lineage significantly.

• Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium. Sensitive to fertilizer salt buildup. Reduce in winter.
