Philodendron Green Congo Nuclear Variegated

A rare variegated cultivar within the Philodendron erubescens Congo group, grown for its bold, high-contrast foliage — large, glossy, paddle-shaped leaves splashed with lime, yellow, and cream against a deep green base, sometimes with a copper flush on new growth. Like other Congo types, it is self-heading, growing upright from a central base in a compact, sculptural clump without needing a moss pole. The variegation varies from leaf to leaf and, due to reduced chlorophyll, growth is slower than the standard green form.

• Light: Bright indirect light is essential to maintain strong, consistent variegation; too little light dims the color and too much direct sun scorches the leaves.

• Soil: Well-draining, airy aroid mix of potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite in a pot with drainage holes. Never waterlogged.

• Temperature/Humidity: Warm, stable temperatures between 65-80°F; moderate to high humidity of 60-80% supports the best growth and variegation. Avoid heating vents and cold drafts.

• Watering: Allow the top portion of the soil to dry slightly between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Overwatering causes root rot — when in doubt, underwater.

• Fertilizer: Feed lightly with a balanced fertilizer at reduced strength every few weeks during spring and summer; reduce or pause in fall and winter to avoid salt buildup.
